DO YOU NEED A DENTAL CROWN?
Dental crowns are one of the most flexible treatments that our dentists use to restore our patients’ beautiful smiles.
Severe Tooth Decay
Tooth decay and cavities are the most common causes for patients getting dental crowns. Plaque and bacteria attack first the tooth’s hard enamel and then the softer layers underneath. Composite fillings are used when only a small area of the tooth is diseased. However, when too much of the surface is destroyed, our dentists will need to place a crown to help reinforce your tooth. Dental crowns are especially common with root canals to help ensure your hollowed tooth is strong and can last for decades more without issue.
TRAUMA & DAMAGE
Chips, cracks, and breaks are often only surface-level, but sometimes the damage can extend far into the inner tooth or cover a large part of the enamel. In these cases, a simple composite filling isn’t enough to repair the tooth. A dental crown is required to not only fix the damage but to keep your tooth safe from further pressure and impacts. It can also prevent tooth decay from reaching the sensitive inner tooth via any cracks or other weak spots.
MISSING TEETH
Dental crowns are also part of both tooth bridge and implant treatments for restoring missing teeth. Tooth bridges place crowns on your remaining teeth on either end of the tooth gap, allowing a connected false tooth called a pontic to rest in the space between. Implants instead use metal posts inserted directly into the jaw to hold your replacement tooth in place, rather than relying on other natural teeth. Dental crowns are the final piece of the implant process, attached to the implant post via an abutment to restore your original tooth’s bite and look.
REPLACING MISSING TEETH WITH A DENTAL BRIDGE
We take dental crowns to the next level when restoring your lost teeth with a dental bridge.
Dental bridges allow us to replace one or more of our patients’ missing teeth quickly and affordably using crowns. How does a tooth bridge work? Tooth bridges are composed of a false tooth fixed between two adjoined dental crowns. Your natural teeth on either side of your tooth gap are reshaped to fit the crowns. When firmly in place, your false teeth can rest securely in-between and bridge the empty space perfectly.
Our dentists are dedicated to the art of tooth replacement. We not only ensure your new teeth look fantastic, but that they fulfill your specific needs exactly. There are several different types of bridges—traditional, Maryland, and cantilever. We’ll ensure you get the best option that works for your smile and can last for years to come.
Our Houston office is dedicated to giving our patients the best option for their smile. This often means deciding between a dental bridge vs implant. Implants are longer-lasting and keep your smile healthier in the long-term. However, a bridge for a missing tooth also has its advantages:
FLEXIBLE TO YOUR NEEDS:
Implants only replace a single tooth at a time, but bridges can restore up to four simultaneously
AFFORDABLE:
A patient’s dental bridge cost is typically more affordable than implants
FEWER REQUIREMENTS:
Bridges bypass the bone grafting and dental surgery that implants need
FASTER PLACEMENT:
While implants can take between 6 months to a year and several appointments to complete, dental bridges can be placed in just two visits
